Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between Danial Barkhordar (Danial), who runs the Acaso app and website as an individual ("Acaso", "we", "us"), and you, the person using them. By creating an account or using Acaso you agree to them, to the Privacy Policy at https://acaso.place/privacy and to the Community Guidelines at https://acaso.place/guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use Acaso. Version 1.2, last updated 25 September 2026. Earlier versions are available on request.
1. What Acaso is
Acaso helps people who are new to a city meet other people in person: a map of who is nearby, plans anyone can post and join, group chats, trips, and introductions. We provide the introduction; you decide whom to meet, where, and what happens next. Acaso is not a matchmaking service, a booking service, an event organiser or a travel agent, and we are not a party to any plan, meeting or arrangement between users.
When a city is quiet, Acaso itself suggests a few plans in public places such as parks, markets and cafés, under the name "Acaso". These are suggestions of a place and a time, nothing more: nobody from Acaso is there, and section 5 applies to them as to any other plan.
2. Who can use Acaso
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You sign in with an Apple Account that is yours. One account per person, in your own name and with a photo of you. You may not create an account for someone else, run more than one account, or use Acaso for a business.
- You may not use Acaso if we have closed an account of yours before, unless we have said in writing that you may come back.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your device secure. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
3. Your content
- You keep ownership of what you post: your profile, photos, messages, plans and trips ("your content").
- You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display and deliver your content to the people you share it with and as needed to run, secure and improve Acaso. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that other users already received and for what we must keep to comply with the law or to act on a report.
- You confirm that you have the right to post your content and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights.
- We may remove or hold back any content that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines, without notice.
- Other people's content belongs to them. You may look at it inside Acaso for the purpose Acaso exists for, meeting people, and for nothing else: not to copy it, collect it, publish it elsewhere or use it commercially.
- If you send us an idea or suggestion about Acaso, we may use it without owing you anything.
4. How you agree to behave
The Community Guidelines at https://acaso.place/guidelines are part of these terms. We have zero tolerance for abuse and for objectionable content. In particular, you agree not to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, deceive, intimidate or discriminate against anyone, or post hate speech;
- post sexual content, nudity, or content that is violent, illegal, promotes self-harm or eating disorders, or belongs to someone else;
- post a photograph of another person, or of anyone under 18, without the consent of that person or, for a child, their parent or guardian;
- ask anyone for money, sell or advertise anything, recruit, or send spam;
- share another person's private information without their consent;
- pretend to be someone you are not, create fake accounts, or use Acaso while your account is suspended or after it has been closed;
- make a report about someone that you know to be false;
- scrape, copy, reverse engineer or interfere with Acaso, or use it to build another service, including to train an automated system.
How we keep this, mostly by code, so that keeping you safe never waits for someone to answer:
- Every message, plan and profile text passes through an automated filter before it is posted. A clear breach of these rules (threats, sexual content, slurs, contact details in a first message, a phone number in a plan or a bio, a new account messaging many people at once) is refused on the spot, and you are told why. Everything else is posted at once. Some posts, and new photos, are flagged for us to look at afterwards, and we may take them down.
- Anyone can report anyone from their profile, a message or a plan, including for something that happened at a meetup. Reporting someone blocks them for you at once, and they are never told who reported them. Every report reaches us straight away.
- A report of threats or violence, sexual harassment, a scam, or that someone is under 18, made by a person who has met them on Acaso (a plan, a chat or a direct message), can pause the account reported. Any other report can pause it when a second person reports it too. Three reports in a week also hide a profile for thirty days.
- While your account is paused, nobody else sees your profile, your plans or your messages, and you can read but not post, join or send. Your plans still to come are called off and your places at other people's are given up. The app tells you the reason. We look at every paused account and then restore it, keep it paused or close it.
- A closed account is closed for good: what was reported comes down, and the Apple Account it signed in with cannot register again.
- Blocking works both ways and is silent: neither of you sees the other again anywhere in Acaso, and the person blocked is not told. You can undo your own blocks in Settings.
- If Acaso is being flooded with spam or abuse, we can pause new posts and messages for everyone for a while.
- This applies to what you do in person as well as in the app. Conduct at a plan arranged through Acaso counts.
- If we pause or close your account, or take your content down, and you think we got it wrong, email us at the address in section 18 and we will look again. We cannot promise how soon.
5. Meeting people in person
Acaso is about meeting people you do not know yet. Please read this section carefully.
- You choose whom to meet, where to meet and whether to go. Meet in public places, tell someone where you are going, keep your own transport and money, and leave if you feel uncomfortable.
- We do not run identity or background checks and we do not vet users beyond the Apple sign-in and our response to reports. We are not present at any meeting and we do not supervise, endorse or guarantee any user, plan or venue.
- You are solely responsible for your own safety, your interactions with other users and your conduct, online and in person. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you accept the risks of meeting people through Acaso, including the journey there and back, the venue, food and drink, and what other people do, and you agree that we are not responsible for what any user says or does, or for anything that happens at or after a meeting.
- Women and non-binary people can choose to be found only by women and non-binary people. That relies on what people put on their profiles. It is a preference, not a check on anyone's identity.
- If something worries you, report it from the person's profile. If someone is in danger, contact the emergency services first.
6. Plans, venues and money
Plans are posted by users, or suggested by Acaso as described in section 1. Cafés, bars, restaurants and other venues are independent businesses; anything you order there you pay to them, and we take nothing from it. We do not make reservations on your behalf unless a feature says so. A no-show affects the other people who came, so leave a plan in the app if you cannot make it.
7. Price
Acaso costs nothing to use. Nothing in the app is for sale. If that ever changes, we will update these terms with the price, how renewal and cancelling work and your right to a refund before anything can be bought, and tell you as section 15 says.
8. Our rights in Acaso
Acaso, its name, design, code and content that we created belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose while you follow these terms. Nothing else is granted, and the licence ends if you break these terms.
If you believe content on Acaso infringes your copyright or another right of yours, email us at the address in section 18 with what the content is, where it is, why it infringes your rights, and how to reach you. We remove content we find to be infringing and close the accounts of people who do it more than once.
9. Privacy and your data
The Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why and for how long, and how to reach us. Under UK and EU data protection law you may ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings at any time.
10. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using Acaso and delete your account whenever you like.
- We can suspend or close your account, remove content, or restrict features at any time if we reasonably believe you have broken these terms or the Community Guidelines, put other people at risk, or where the law requires it. Where it is safe to do so, we will tell you why, and section 4 says how to ask us to look again.
- Sections 3 (the licence for content already delivered), 5, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 14 keep applying after the agreement ends.
11. No guarantees
Acaso is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it running, accurate and secure, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors, that any content is accurate, that any user is who they say they are, that anyone will come to a plan, or that you will meet anyone in particular. We may change, pause or stop any part of Acaso at any time.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Acaso, from the conduct of any user, from any meeting, plan or venue, or from content posted by users;
- we are not liable for indirect, consequential or special losses, loss of profit, loss of data, or loss of opportunity;
- our total liability to you for all claims together is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
13. Your responsibility to us
You agree to compensate us for any claim, loss, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) that arises from your content, your conduct, your use of Acaso, or your breach of these terms or of the law.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live. If something goes wrong, email us first at the address in section 18 and we will try to sort it out. We do not take part in alternative dispute resolution schemes.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The app shows the new version the next time you open it after a change. Continuing to use Acaso after that means you accept the change. The latest version, with its number and date, is always at https://acaso.place/terms.
16. Notifications
Acaso sends push notifications about messages, plans and people who involve you, and occasionally an email about your account. You choose whether to allow pushes when the app first asks, and you can turn any kind of push off in Settings, or all of them in your phone's settings, at any time.
17. Other things
If part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce something once, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer this agreement or your account to anyone else; we may transfer it to someone who takes over Acaso, and we will tell you if we do. These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines are the whole agreement between us about Acaso.
18. Contact
Danial Barkhordar (Danial), an individual in London, United Kingdom, who runs Acaso.
Email: hello@acaso.place. Every question, complaint, notice, legal claim and privacy request can be sent to it; it counts as received when it arrives. If you need a postal address to serve a legal document, ask at the same email and we will give you one.
